Team

At Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Iziba Safari Lodge we have two main teams working tirelessly to conserve wildlife and bring you the best luxury safari experience close to Cape Town. On the reserve you will find the lodge team attending to your every need and the wildlife team, who work with the animals, take you on Big 5 safaris and share stories about the wildlife roaming free on the reserve. The Cape Town team is there to assist you in sorting out the finer details of your booking and accommodation, while the marketing team aims to keep everyone up to date and informed about everything that makes Inverdoorn what it is.

Meet the team and read more about the different individuals working at Inverdoorn.

Meeting the Interns: Victoria Paillusseau

Leaving one paradise for another, Victoria Paillusseau has come from her home in Mauritius to work at Inverdoorn as a lodge volunteer. This is her first time in South Africa and she decided to come here because "I love Africa. I already lived in the north, like Morocco, and I wanted to see how it was in the south." It doesn't end there though, as she maps out a childhood spent in France, Sierra Leone, Egypt and Gambia. When she is...

“All good things are wild and free.” – Henry David Thoreau

Meeting the Volunteers: John McIlvaine

I mentioned previously that the cheetah team could no longer be referred to as the cheetah girls, and this is due to the presence of John McIlvaine. Coming from Seattle in the United States, this is his second time working with cheetahs in South Africa. “Everything about them is awesome,” he says when naming the cheetah as his favourite animal, “and I’ve worked with them quite a bit now and every time I’m with them I learn...

"I am a forward-looking person and live in the moment to build for the future." - Hugh Masekela

Meeting the Volunteers: Annami Grabe

Something I loved about meeting the volunteers and talking to them was the way they carefully contemplated each question I put forward to them – and none more so than Annami, a local volunteer, hailing from Somerset West. She has found a perfect haven in Inverdoorn’s open spaces as she explains that she’s an outdoor person. “I like the bushveld and openness. I don’t like the city, so this is perfect for me.” “When I...

“All noble things are as difficult as they are rare.” – Baruch Spinoza

Meeting the Volunteers: Cynthia Knuppe

The lodge is abuzz with activity, and not only because it’s summer season. The other reason for all the energy coursing through the reserve is the interns and volunteers. I have never seen so many at one time, and considering the passion and enthusiasm they bring with, you can just imagine the spirit in the place. I caught up with the new arrivals, sitting under the shade close to the dam, with Velvet and Iziba gamboling nearby....

Dutch Delight

I am Cynthia Knuppe, a 28 year old woman with a Dutch nationality. In the Netherlands I used to work as a dental hygienist for about six years. In the beginning of 2012 I decided to take a sabbatical and that’s when I came to South Africa. I like to travel and have already seen a lot of this beautiful country. I have a passion for big cats and that became bigger after I did some volunteer work in 2011. When I got the opportunity to...
