Simon Capstick-Dale visits Inverdoorn GameReserve, which, with a proud history of over 14 years, has become a leader in South Africa’s wildlife conservation efforts.

He is beautiful, the king of the beasts. From a safe viewing spot you still experience a twinge of anxiety, though. Robbi is no kitty cat. Waiting for his food, he paces below and every now and then jumps up and roars at us. Who can blame him? We all get a little grumpy when we haven’t eaten.

Inverdoorn Game Reserve is just 250km outside of Cape Town and Damien Vergnaud, co-owner and manager, tells us Robbi is a Cape-Barbary lion he and his father rescued from a canned-lion hunting farm.

Inverdoorn est une valley de 10000ha ds le western cape Karoo, a 2h.30mn de Cape Town. The Karoo has been the divine inspiration of artists and writers for hundreds of years. Little wonder - the vastness of the landscape, the infinite sky and the crisp, clean air instils a soul regeneration in the most jaded of travellers.

After a pleasantly scenic two hour drive from Cape Town, we arrived at Inverdoorn Game Reserve on a hot March afternoon. We received a most refreshing welcome from the team at the lodge and quickly helped along to our quaint bungalow where after we joined our host at the poll bar for an ice cold drink. It was just what we needed to cool down in the heat of the Karoo.

Only one game lodge and safari captures the incredible vastness, biodiversity, architecture and cuisine of the Cape Karoo.
