Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Iziba Safari Lodge is situated just outside the town of Ceres. If you are driving yourself, there are many roadside attractions and activities to enjoy along the way. We have picked two possible routes you can take to get there or to take back to Cape Town.
The village of Ceres is the main village you will travel through en route to Inverdoorn and the Ceres valley is a great place to visit throughout the year. Ceres is renowned for producing fruit that is exported all over the world and since all roads that lead to Ceres traverse mountain passes, the region is a great adventure destination. For the less adventurous, enjoy a leisurely lunch on one of the fruit farms or take a cherry picking tour. A scenic drive across the mountain passes that surround the valley is also a great way to spend an afternoon.
For the outdoor enthusiast there is plenty to do from quad-biking and ziplining across mountainous ravines to fresh water fishing. When you return from your amazing safari adventure at Inverdoorn, instead of heading back to Cape Town immediately, stop and enjoy all that Ceres has to offer en route.

A mere 45-minute drive from Cape Town, accessing Inverdoorn via the historic town of Wellington and the 159-year-old Bainskloof Pass is a great alternate route to take. Wellington is home to the vines as 90% of the country's vine cutting nurseries are situated in the valley. If you have booked an overnight safari at Inverdoorn you will have enough time in the morning to enjoy the Wellington Wine route. It is short and the cellars are in close proximity to one another, making it a very popular route .
If you have a little more time and are feeling a bit more adventurous you can do The Wellington Wine Walk – a 3-day hike that meanders through vineyards, orchards and indigenous fynbos. The perfect opportunity to sample the cheese, wine and olives produced in the region, as well as overnight stays in historic French Huguenot farms, adds extra charm to the outing.
Upon exiting Wellington you will travel over the magnificent Bainskloof Pass to reach Ceres. The pass remains largely unchanged since it was built many years ago. Snaking narrowly along the Witte River ravine, take the time to stop and absorb the natural beauty of this unspoilt region.
