A Fish Out of Water

A Fish Out of Water

Last week Sophie and I headed to Hermanus to chat social media and South Africa with top local bloggers Dawn Jorgensen, Di Brown and Linda Markovina . They hosted a workshop at the South African Shark Conservancy (SASC), an old stone building fringed with brick-red window frames and tucked into a rocky cliff right next to the ocean. With the crash of the surf as our soundtrack for the day, we hungrily scribbled hints and tips that...

Quality Time

It has been a topsy turvy few days here at Inverdoorn! Both the lodge and the cheetah girls have been putting in hard work and sweat digging, building and cementing for a new pool at the lodge. In the next couple of weeks we hope to move on to Iziba and Velvet's camps to upgrade them and make them even nicer for the girls. Tracking-wise, the male has been very busy this week. He caught at least one lechwe and had a nice few meals...

A Safari Engagement

A Safari Engagement

About three weeks ago we had a very special event at Inverdoorn. An engagement. Engagements are rare at the lodge, which is one of the reasons they are so special, but it wasn't my first one. I am happy to say that this was my third cheetah engagement and I'm even happier to say that they were all successful. I always love it when people choose to get engaged on a cheetah interaction, because they choose these beautiful animals to...

This year the focus is on island biodiversity. The need to address issues of biodiversity was raised by the UN Environment Programme in 1988. It eventually led to the creation of this important day, as well as the Convention on Biological Diversity – an...

A Team for all Seasons

A Team for all Seasons

With things starting to calm down around the lodge and busy season drawing to a close, less guests doesn't mean less work for our cheetah girls. For the cheetahs, winter season is no different to the busy season. Unfortunately Velvet has far less interactions, which means less cuddles from guests; but luckily there are still lots of cuddles from her caretakers. This is my first winter season at Inverdoorn and finally we get the time...
